At Meyer’s Animal House we have a two phase hiring process. Only those who complete both phases will be considered for employment.

Job Description

Pet care is the core of our operations and this position requires caring for all aspects of a pet during its stay.  Strong attention to detail and a team player attitude are required, as is your love for pets! This person is responsible for the general care & maintenance of all pets at Meyer’s. Applicants must be responsible, punctual and dependable. Pets in our facility must be cared for promptly, every day. The facility is staffed 365 days a year and is exceptionally busy when schools are on holiday recess. Little or no absenteeism is extremely important. Experience is not necessary, however a genuine love for animals is a must. You must be able to handle dogs of all sizes without being afraid of them and without allowing them to control you. You must be in good physical condition, able to squat, stoop, bend, lift, and do a lot of walking. Must be willing to maintain the highest standards in cleanliness. There will be opportunities for advancement, if you excel.

 Responsibilities and Duties:

  •  Be able to lift 40 lbs.
  • Previous dog experience meaning more than that you have owned a dog
  • Good dog handling
  • Ensures that all service systems are executed properly in a clean, safe, and friendly
    environment, according to all established procedures, performance standards and company
    values.
  • Ensures Meyer’s Animal House operations adhere to new or established productivity and service
    standards with a sufficient number of well-trained and productive employees.
  • Supports sales by focusing the staff on image and service actions to enhance the customer’s
    perception of their pet’s experience at Meyer’s Animal House.
  • Ensures proper management of the facility and equipment through preventive maintenance,
    energy conservation, repairs, security measures, and adherence to safety and sanitation
    requirements.
  • Provide outstanding customer service.
  • Oversee client interactions and help maintain a professional workplace.
  • Problem shoot and problem solve.
  • Schedule yourself appropriately to cover busy times including, but not limited to, holidays
    and weekends when needed.
  • Cover shifts when necessary. No-shows, call-ins, sick days, etc.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately to front desk staff.
  • Help streamline procedures.
  • Help solidify our training procedures and keep the staff SOP current.
  • Use good judgment and common sense.
  • Conduct yourself in an open and honest manner.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of all the products and services we offer.
  • Help foster an open door policy between staff and leadership.
  • Help foster an open door policy between clients and leadership/staff.
  • Promote positive work morale.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal communication skills and leadership presence
  • Ability to train, coach, develop, and retain staff
  • Computer literate with ability to use internet, e-mail, Word and Excel spreadsheets in a
    professional setting
  • Ability to multi-task to manage labor costs and guest care during a shift.
  • Analytical, solution oriented approach to business and operations problems
  • Ability to motivate and manage employee performance consistently and fairly, using praise and
    corrective actions as appropriate
  • Genuine liking for people with a desire to make the customer experience and the employee work
    experience pleasant, welcoming, and memorable.
  • Communicating and connecting company mission and values to daily operations
  • Significant work experience in the pet care industry or retail industries
  • Computer literate with ability to use in-house software, e-mail, Word and Excel spreadsheets
    in a professional setting

Desired Experience and Education

  • High school diploma
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s in business or related field desired.
  • 2+ years management experience in a pet lodge or pet care environment
  • Excellent work history and references with a record of career progression

Compensation

  • Pay and benefits negotiable, depending on experience.
